Lack
Whether rich or poor, everyone experiences some form of scarcity at some point in life. The absence of a desired item is considered a form of deprivation. Deprivation can take many forms. Lack of food, clothing, shelter, or money can be called material deprivation, while the lack of love, respect, knowledge, health, experience, or time can be termed non-material deprivation. Material deprivation can also be called primary deprivation because it directly affects a person's day-to-day life. Experiencing deprivation can generate feelings of disappointment, anxiety, inferiority, dissatisfaction, and deprivation in a person; however, it is not true that deprivation only has negative effects on an individual. Deprivation can also motivate a person to work hard and remove scarcity from their life. There are many examples of successful people who, inspired by the struggles of their early-life deprivations, reached the highest peaks of progress. It is often seen that those who have no primary or other significant deprivation in their lives, or who get everything easily, tend to avoid hard work.

In the philosophical tradition, there is a special emphasis on the positive significance of scarcity. According to this, scarcity teaches us to live with limited resources. It helps in the development of excellent qualities within us, such as contentment, patience, and tolerance, as a result of which we avoid vices like depriving others of their rights or feeling jealousy towards them. Therefore, it is appropriate that a person should not be disturbed by the negative effects of scarcity, but should consider it as a source of motivation for hard work and always strive to remain balanced even in adverse circumstances.
